Scrapbooking is my all-time favorite hobby. I have been creating scrapbooks for over 15 years and I don't think I will ever get tired of it. One of the most important part of scrapbooking is having the best scrapbooking supplies. Getting scrapbook supplies that are a good quality will really reduce the cost over the years!
Best Scrapbooking Supplies
I have always tried to scrapbook on a budget, but I have learned over the years that there are some things you shouldn't cut corners on! Finding the best scrapbooking supplies for a good price is the perfect compromise, LOL.
Best Scrapbooking Albums
An album is really essential to scrapbooking. You have to have a place to put everything you create! There are 2 main styles of albums. One is the postbound album and the other is the D-Ring album.
My preference is the D-Ring album. It holds more layouts and it is very easy to rearrange the pages!
When it comes to different types of D-Ring scrapbook albums you will see leather albums, sturdy vinyl albums, faux leather albums, fabric albums and even chipboard albums.
My preferences are typically the leather, faux leather and vinyl albums. I do have some fabric albums, but they seem to show wear and dirt easily.
It is nice to get d-ring albums that have a metal label frame on the spice for easy labeling.
Buying nice albums is a great investment. These scrapbooks will last so so long and you don't want to have to buy new albums later.
Electronic Cutting System
First I will say that an electronic cutting system is not completely necessary to scrapbooking. Nevertheless, I believe that over the years I have saved a lot of money by using my electronic cutting machine.
My first machine was a Cricut way back when they were pretty new to the market. It was a small machine and I used it a lot. As time passed the technology improved a lot and eventually I upgraded to a Pazzles Inspiration machine. I used it a LONG time and really loved it.
A few years ago I wanted to upgrade to a Cricut Explore Air machine and it has been great. I enjoy not having to buy cartridges with their Cricut Access program.
The other very popular electronic cutting machine is the Silhouette brand. I have many friends who use Silhouettes and love them. It really just comes down to personal brand preference!
I think it really pays to buy a quality machine and to take good care of it too!
Paper Trimmer
My paper trimmer is probably one of my most used supplies. I feel like finding the best scrapbooking supplies is super important and I have tried several different paper trimmers over the years.
I have settled on the Fiskars 12-inch portable trimmer. There are 2 different varieties that are just awesome. One is the Fiskars 12-inch premium port-line portable trimmer and the other one is the Fiskars 12-inch portable rotary paper trimmer.
The great thing about a good quality paper trimmer is that it can be used for so many things. I use mine for lots of non-scrapbooking projects too! The portable paper trimmers are important so you can take them along to crops!
Cardstock
Cardstock is the base of almost every scrapbook layout that is made. I have learned the hard way that buying the cheapest cardstock is not always the best way to go!
Some cardstock is white in the middle. So if you want to do some cut tearing for your layout the center will show white. This may be what you want or it may not.
Higher quality cardstock will be the same color on the inside as it is on the outside. It is also usually thicker and very sturdy.
My favorite cardstock brand is Bazzill. I can always count on this brand to be just what I need. They have such a huge variety of colors and textures too!
Organization
When it comes to supply organization all I can say is WOW! When I first started scrapbooking there were very few organizational products and most that I found were from Creative Memories. Now the options are endless!
Some crafters go for functional organization tools and other's go for cute! I am in the middle I guess…if I can find something functional and cute it is a big win!
I recently got the Dazzle Caddy to store my stickles and I really like it! You can add more rows easily when you run out of room. These are also very easy to take along to crops!
Cropper Hopper is a well-known brand for storage and organization. I have used many of their products over the years and have been pleased with the quality!
Traveling Totes
Storage for scrapbooking supplies that can be easily moved around is essential if you go to crops or if you have very little space for supplies. The right storage totes can allow you to keep all of your supplies in one place and put away in a closet if necessary.
My FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE rolling tote is not even a scrapbooking tote. It is a TOOLBOX and it works so well. Honestly..so many scrappers have gone out and bought one after seeing mine at crops!! It is called a FatMax Mobile Work Station.
The FatMax has a bottom storage drawer that easily holds 12×12 paper packs and other 12×12 supplies. The other areas hold SO MUCH STUFF!! I have been using mine for probably 10 years now and it is still just as sturdy as the first day! When it comes to the best scrapbooking supplies this one is up high on the list!
Punches
I have a lot of punches. The sad part is that I just don't use very many of the punches I own. 😥
If you are scrapbooking on a budget I would say less is more when it comes to punches. These are the ones I find myself using a LOT.
- Corner Rounder Punch
- Banner Punches–medium and large
- Circle Punches–in a variety of sizes
- Star Punches–in a variety of sizes
I have a lot of border punches and misc shape punches that rarely get used.
Adhesive
There are a ton of different types and brands of adhesive. I have tried a LOT of them!
One of my favorite types of adhesive is iCraft's SuperTape rolls. I have these in several different sizes and they are SO strong. Typically I use these to secure thicker ribbons to my layouts, heavy chipboard embellishments and anything else heavy that regular adhesive might not hold.
Roll dispensers are the other adhesive that I go through like water. I am not thrifty when it comes to adhering things to my layouts. There are so many brands. The ones that I have the most luck with are Scotch Adhesive Rollers, 3L E-Z Runner and Therm-o-Web Sticky Strip Runner.
Lastly I like the Glue Dots Rollers. Glue dots are SO sticky and using the roller makes it a lot easier to get the dot where you want it!
Pens/Markers
I will be the first to admit I am very boring when it comes to pens, markers, etc. Black is my go-to color for almost all of my journaling. I keep plenty of extra black thin-tipped markers on hand.
Most of my scrapping friends love Copic Markers. These are fairly high-priced, but I have been told are some of the best quality.
Misc Tools
One tool that I actually use quite a bit is my W R Memory Keepers Banner Punch Board. This is great for making larger banners to hang on your mantel or for parties! It is really easy to use and you can make different sizes and shapes.
I can't scrapbook without my precision craft tweezers. These help me pick up those little embellishments and so much more!
One of the first tools I bought when I started this hobby was the Creative Memories Cutting System. I still use this system and have never needed to upgrade! You can either find a Creative Memories consultant or order directly from the company through Amazon!!
Kits
I love, love, love layout kits. Whether it is getting a monthly kit from a kit club or just getting random kits…I save so much time with scrapbooking kits!
I have a HUGE list of monthly scrapbooking kits you can check out….and a list of the best places to find page kits!
Resource Books
Everything is online these days and obviously I love that as a blogger. Nevertheless, there are some things I like to be able to grab a book and look up!
The best places I have found to get title and journaling ideas is the book, Inspiration Station. It is huge and is an awesome resource.
My favorite layout ideas come from the Scrapbook Page Map books by Becky Fleck. There are 2 volumes to my knowledge and I have them both!
So Much More
A list of the best scrapbooking supplies could go on forever. That is part of what I love about the hobby. So many new products come out every year and the supplies never get boring!
This list really does contain products I own and USE! I wanted to list items that I use a LOT and would hate to scrapbook without!
Let me know what you think the best scrapbooking supplies are! What can you not live without??
