I have heard it a LOT. So many times by so many people. They don't like their own handwriting. So they don't do any personal handwritten journaling in their scrapbooks. Well I am here to tell you why you should use personal handwritten journaling in your scrapbooks. It is worth it!

Why You Should Use Personal Handwritten Journaling in Your Scrapbooks

Whether you are a new crafter or an expert crafter…the day will come when you want to write something down. Maybe you make homemade cards…you scrapbook….there are lots of crafts that involve words. Why not write some of these words by hand?

It is Personal

There is something very personal about a handwritten note. Think about getting cards or letters in the mail. I don't have as much of a connection when I receive a card or note that is typed.

If I see that someone took the time to write their thoughts out by hand it means a lot to me. Journaling is a personal part of scrapbooking. Handwritten journaling is much more personal than typed journaling.

You Are Leaving a Legacy

Scrapbooks are about a legacy. We are taking the time to record our lives and the lives of those we love.

Part of that legacy is our handwriting. When I am gone I know my children are going to want to read those journaling boxes in my own handwriting. They will feel a connection to me through those handwritten words.

I love pulling out some cards I have from my grandmother who passed away years ago. I look at her handwriting and reminisce about our time together. It is easy to visualize her hands as she made me eggs in the morning. I can see the rings she wore in my mind…it all comes back when I see her handwriting.

This is a wonderful legacy to leave to your family.

No One Cares What Your Handwriting Looks Like

I am the first person to say that I DO NOT like my handwriting. The older I get the sloppier my writing gets. Despite my distaste for my own handwriting I still journal by hand.

I may make a mistake…if it is something I can't fix then I don't worry about it and my kids get a laugh when they see the error. It isn't a big deal. They love to read what I write in their scrapbooks.

The Right Tools Can Help

The only times I have had issues with my handwritten journaling is when I was using sub par pens. When a pen runs out half way through my story…that is a problem!

great pens for journaling

I found some great pens at Walmart recently and they are working just right for my scrapbook journaling. The two packages that jumped out at me were the Pilot Precise V5 4pk Assorted and the Pilot Precise V5 Deco 9pk Assorted + bonus Deco RT Blue.

The pens are just plain CUTE. They also give me a very smooth writing experience and that is important in journaling. The vibrant colors allow me to vary my journaling to match the color scheme of the layout.

It is never to late to try out a new pen! You will probably fall in love like I did, LOL.

You Can Have Handwritten Journaling in Digital Scrapbooks Too

If you do digital scrapbooking there is still a way to include your handwritten journaling. All you have to do is write what you want to say onto a piece of white paper. Scan the paper into your computer and save it as an image.

Then you can use a digital software to adjust the size of the journaling to match up with the journaling box in your digital scrapbooking. This is a little more work but it is worth it do try this method at least once in a while.

What Will You Say?

What will you say in your handwritten journaling? Do you tell long stories or keep it simple? I try to date all of my layouts with at least the month and year!

Have you tried out a Pilot Precise V5 Pen yet? Be sure to check them out HERE. You will be so glad you did!
